ConservAmerica Applauds Signing of The Great American Outdoors Act

WASHINGTON, DC – ConservAmerica today welcomes President Donald Trump’s signing of the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) into law.

This historic law strengthens the $887 billion outdoor recreation economy by permanently funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and addressing the nearly $20 billion maintenance backlog at our national parks and other federal lands. The newly signed law will add an estimated 100,000 outdoor recreation jobs to America’s economy — a sector that already employs 7.6 million Americans.

The Great American Outdoors Act was introduced in the Senate by Sens. Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) in March and was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers of Congress.

”We thank the president for his commitment to our public lands,” said ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer. “This bill will allow Americans to continue to enjoy the freedom of the outdoors. We also thank all the members of Congress who voted for it, and specifically Senators Gardner and Daines, who the president highlighted this morning as essential to getting it passed.”

More numbers according to Pew research:

·      $40 billion is added to the economy through park tourism, half of that in direct spending.

·      $200 billion and 1.3 million American jobs are supported by the 49 million American sportsmen.

·      Every $1 million invested in the LWCF produces 17 to 31 jobs.

ConservAmerica is proud of its work on this important bill and is committed to continuing our work protecting what President Trump called, “this magnificent land we love and cherish and adore.”
