ConservAmerica Statement on the Passage of The Energy Act of 2020

“The energy package has been years in the making, and a great deal of unseen effort went into moving it across the final finish line. It represents a victory for everyone who believes we need to address climate change and economic growth simultaneously. But beyond that, it stands as a testament to the legislative process and what is possible when members of Congress drop the politics and focus on the policy. Consensus legislation takes time and hard work, but it is achievable, even in today’s polarized environment. The success of this package is proof that an inclusive process that gives all sides a seat at the table not only can work but is the only way to make lasting progress on some of our most vexing problems.

The energy bill is Sen. Murkowski’s capstone achievement as chairman of the energy committee. She never gave up on this package, and she deserves much of the credit for its ultimate success. Many lawmakers from both chambers of Congress had a hand in its ultimate success, but it was Sen. Murkowski's determinedness as chairman that ensured these provisions remained at the top of the to-do list session after session.”
